Detective Expects More Victims to Come Forward Following Russell Brand Conviction

Following the conviction of Russell Brand on charges of rape and sexual assault, the lead detective in the Metropolitan Police investigation has stated that he expects more victims may now come forward. Det Supt Andy Furphy, who headed the three-year inquiry known as Operation Actinolite, expressed hope that the guilty verdicts delivered at Southwark Crown Court will provide other women with the "courage" and "confidence" to report their experiences.

A Complex Investigation

Throughout the legal process, Brand maintained that any sexual activity was consensual, though he provided "no comment" responses during police interviews. While the current trial has concluded, it can now be reported that Brand remains under investigation regarding further rape allegations made by two other women.

Reflecting on the outcome, Det Supt Furphy praised the bravery of the women who testified, noting that the focus of the police operation remained on supporting them throughout the "deeply uncomfortable" legal proceedings.
