A series of commercial flights across Europe were disrupted on Thursday following a wave of bomb threats. The incidents forced emergency diversions and triggered high-level security responses across several nations, including France, Italy, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.
Emergency Diversions and Security Protocols
An Aer Lingus flight traveling from Dublin to Rome was forced to divert to a French military base in Evreux, Normandy, after receiving a security alert. Meanwhile, a Finnair flight en route from Helsinki to Rome was escorted by air force jets before landing safely at its destination. Other affected services included a WizzAir flight from Milan to Warsaw, which diverted to Vienna, and a LOT Polish Airlines flight that landed at Brussels Zaventem Airport.
Authorities in Rome also reported that two Ryanair flights—one arriving from Dublin and another from Lisbon—were subjected to security searches upon landing at Fiumicino Airport. In all reported cases, standard security protocols were enacted to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
These disruptions follow a similar pattern of incidents earlier in the week, where eight European flights were targeted by suspected threats. Officials have characterized the recent surge in alerts as "malicious hoax threats," noting that no explosives have been discovered during the subsequent inspections of the aircraft.
