Nepal Avalanche Claims at Least 15 Lives Among Expedition Workers
Rescuers in Nepal have recovered eight additional bodies following an avalanche that struck a mountain camp, bringing the total death toll to at least 15 expedition workers, according to Tul Singh Gurung, president of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association.
The recovery efforts followed the initial disaster on Sunday at Himlung, a popular destination for mountaineers aiming to climb 7,000-metre peaks. The bodies recovered on Thursday were expected to be transported by helicopter.
The search and recovery timeline over the course of the week includes:
- Sunday: The bodies of two mountain guides were recovered following the avalanche.
- Monday: Two kitchen staff members were pulled from the site.
- Tuesday: An additional three bodies were recovered.
- Thursday: Eight more bodies were found by rescuers at the camp area.
The total number of recovered victims has reached 15 as operations continue at the Himlung expedition site.
