Large demonstrations began in Paris and spread across France on Saturday, forcing the closure of shops, businesses and major tourist attractions. The government has deployed 70,000 police officers nationwide to manage the unrest.

Parisian officials also halted services at several key tourist sites, and many retail outlets and restaurants reported temporary closures. Marseille had earlier announced a suspension of public transport for Saturday, but reversed the decision after public backlash.

Protests are also expected in Italy, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Albania and Ireland, with police in Milan already conducting raids on 150 homes, including those of 51 minors, in preparation for Saturday’s demonstrations.

Authorities remain on high alert as the protests continue to spread across Europe.
