British comedian and actor Russell Brand is facing further police scrutiny following his conviction on multiple charges of rape and sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley confirmed that authorities are actively investigating rape allegations made by two additional women against the 51-year-old entertainer. Investigators leading Operation Actinolite indicated that more victims may step forward in the wake of the trial's outcome.
The announcement follows a three-week trial where a jury found Brand guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was acquitted of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. Following the verdicts, the judge revoked Brand's bail, and he now faces a significant custodial sentence.
Detectives heading the multi-year investigation noted that the initial allegations first surfaced in media reports in September 2023, prompting dozens of witnesses and multiple complainants to come forward to UK police forces.
