A Russian strike has hit the Northern Bridge in Kyiv, making it the second major bridge in the city to be targeted by Russia in recent days, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The latest attack occurs amid a broader escalation of strikes by Russia against the Ukrainian capital.
The targeting of the Northern Bridge follows multiple attacks on Kyiv's Southern Bridge, which has been struck repeatedly by Russian drones since Thursday. Following an attack on the Southern Bridge, passengers recounted that dust from a blast wave entered their train carriage via the ventilation system. Mayor Klitschko previously warned that these intensified strikes are tearing Kyiv apart and stated that residents can no longer pretend the city is experiencing peacetime.
The increased assaults have disrupted daily life across the capital. Valeriya Tkachenko described feeling terrified for her son after an air raid alert sounded while she was dropping him off at a school in central Kyiv. Meanwhile, Artem Marchenko, an IT worker, had to abandon his vehicle on Friday morning and walk across the Pivdennyi Bridge for 20 minutes to reach his destination. A diplomat noted that the overall situation in the city is deteriorating rapidly as attacks continue.
