World Number One Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Shanghai Masters

World number one Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters because of a lingering knee injury. The 25-year-old Italian tennis star has not competed since July, when he secured a victory at Wimbledon at the All England Club.

The persistent injury has forced Sinner to miss a significant portion of the tennis calendar. His extended absence includes the entire North American hardcourt swing, highlighted by the US Open, as well as the ongoing ATP 500 event and China Open in Beijing.

Addressing his status regarding the upcoming tournament, Sinner stated that he will unfortunately be unable to participate in the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

Impact on the Rankings

Sinner's ongoing time away from the court opens a pathway for Alexander Zverev to advance his bid for the year-end world number one ranking.

Zverev has the chance to climb to the top of the world rankings for the very first time in his career, provided he captures tournament victories at both the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters.
