Singapore’s air quality remained severely affected on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2026, as hourly PM2.5 readings hovered in elevated ranges and the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) persisted in unhealthy to very unhealthy bands across the island.
Regional Air Quality Breakdown
The 24-hour PSI in the western region peaked at 212 on Thursday, marking a new high for Singapore this year, though it subsequently dropped back into the unhealthy band by mid-afternoon. Across all regions, the 24-hour PSI spanned from 125 to 196.
Transboundary Haze Causes and Precautions
The NEA attributed the ongoing haze to widespread hotspots detected in Kalimantan and Sumatra, accompanied by moderate to dense smoke haze covering parts of southern Southeast Asia. Authorities warn that the transboundary haze is likely to persist amid prolonged dry conditions.
In response to the deteriorating conditions, authorities rolled out protective measures. ActiveSG closed outdoor and non-air-conditioned sports facilities in the west, south, and central regions. Additionally, the government advanced the phased distribution of N95 masks to vulnerable residents via community clubs, selected local committee centres, and newly deployed vending machines at public transport hubs and social service offices. Haze shelters have also been established at community clubs and designated residents' centers.
