Arsenal secured a nervy 2-1 victory away against Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, surviving a late second-half surge after goals from Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres.
The Gunners established control early in Czechia when Gyökeres set up Madueke to open the scoring. Gyökeres then added a second goal himself to put Mikel Arteta's side in a comfortable position.
Despite Arsenal's dominance for much of the match, Slavia Prague mounted a spirited comeback in the closing stages. Goalkeeper David Raya was forced into a spectacular save, tipping an Oskar Kubiak effort onto the post. Slavia's persistence paid off in the final minute of normal time when Wiktor Nowak converted at the far post, leaving Arsenal to weather a tense period of stoppage time before securing the 2-1 win.
The result extends Arsenal's unbeaten run on their travels in Europe to 10 matches, while Slavia Prague equaled the longest winless streak in European Cup and Champions League history at 23 games. Afterward, manager Mikel Arteta admitted his side had "a lot to learn" from a "sloppy" finish.
