NEW YORK — Just ahead of the holiday travel season, JetBlue has raised its checked baggage fees for the second time this year, citing climbing fuel and operating expenses.
New Baggage Rates Take Effect
Travelers flying during peak holiday periods, including Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, will face even higher costs. During peak windows, the first checked bag will cost $55 if paid more than 24 hours before departure, and $60 if paid within 24 hours of the flight. Second checked bags will cost $70 under standard rates, rising to $75 outside the 24-hour window during peak periods and $85 within 24 hours of departure.
In a statement provided to the Associated Press, the airline explained that the adjustments are designed to offset rising operating costs while maintaining competitive base fares for passengers who choose not to check luggage.
JetBlue is among several major carriers to adjust baggage and ticket pricing this year, as the airline industry responds to escalating jet fuel prices driven by the ongoing conflict in Iran. Despite the rising fees, JetBlue executives noted during a recent earnings call that passenger demand has remained resilient.
