Storm Austen has swept across parts of the United Kingdom, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, widespread travel delays, and power outages. The severe weather prompted yellow weather warnings for wind and rain across England and Wales, while Jersey and Guernsey faced a red warning.
Thousands of properties in Wales, Cornwall, and Devon experienced power cuts. Although the National Grid restored supply to more than 60,000 homes, hundreds of properties remained without electricity. Local authorities and transport networks reported significant disruptions, including train cancellations and delays caused by fallen trees. In Cornwall, emergency crews responded to approximately 250 incidents, which included over 150 reports of fallen trees.
The unsettled conditions are set to continue. A second weather system, Storm Boelo, is forecast to arrive on Saturday, bringing further strong winds and rain to Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England. An amber wind warning is scheduled to take effect across parts of those regions from Saturday evening through Sunday, prompting transport operators and meteorologists to advise the public to check for service updates and plan ahead.
