Official figures reveal that the UK economy expanded unexpectedly in August, defying widespread forecasts of a contraction.

UK Economy Defies Expectations with August Growth

According to data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK's gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.1% in August. The result surprised many economists who had anticipated a decline between 0.1% and 0.3%.

Looking at a broader timeframe, ONS figures showed that economic growth across the three-month period rose to 0.7%, also exceeding expectations. Furthermore, previous months underwent upward revisions, with June's growth adjusted to 0.4% and the three-month figure up to July revised upwards to 0.5%.
