Emergency services successfully rescued a teenage boy on Sunday afternoon after he became trapped in a complex network of stormwater drains beneath Brisbane. The incident prompted a rapid response from local fire authorities in the Kangaroo Point area.
Quick Response in the Underground Maze
Crews located the trapped teenager about 20 metres from the tunnel entrance after roughly half an hour of searching. According to Queensland Fire Department station officer Clint Pilon, firefighters utilized an inflatable rescue boat to navigate the drainage system and bring the boy to safety in what he described as a "pretty smooth" operation.
Authorities confirmed that the teenager emerged uninjured and did not require transport to a hospital. Following the successful outcome, emergency officials issued a warning against playing in stormwater networks, emphasizing that the extensive underground tunnels pose significant risks, especially following rainfall.
