An Oregon father hailed as a national hero is speaking publicly for the first time about confronting and stopping a shooter at his children's elementary school.
Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter, recounted the harrowing events that unfolded at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. During the incident, Giamanco intervened to stop the gunman, telling a 911 operator on the phone during the response, “I have to go in. People are going to die.”
The tragedy resulted in the deaths of three boys and one teacher. Giamanco's decisive actions at the school, where his own children are students, ultimately brought an end to the active shooter situation before further bloodshed could occur.
