Thousands march in Greece over public education failures and cost of living – Europe live

In Athens, Thessaloniki and other Greek cities, thousands of students, teachers and civil servants gathered on Saturday to demand better classroom conditions, higher pay for teachers and a response to the rising cost of living. The protests, inspired in part by recent rallies in France and Spain, saw the primary‑school teachers’ union call a 24‑hour strike while the high‑school federation announced a three‑hour stoppage.

Participants also blocked motorways, creating long traffic jams that have intensified pressure on the government. The demonstrations have sparked criticism of the Italian broadcaster RAI, accused of giving disproportionate coverage to violent student protests in Milan while downplaying the economic hardship faced by families and workers across the country.

As the protests continue, the Greek government faces mounting calls for reform and a clearer strategy to address both education and economic challenges.
