A broad band of severe weather is predicted to sweep across large parts of Australia this weekend, bringing the threat of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and flash flooding to multiple states.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, severe storms are expected to impact parts of Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia on Saturday. The weather system is then projected to move into New South Wales and Tasmania by Sunday.
The incoming storms arrive while parts of Queensland are already experiencing a significant deluge. Earlier in the week, flash flooding in south-east Queensland triggered hundreds of calls for assistance from the State Emergency Service and forced the closure of multiple schools. By Saturday morning, authorities maintained nine active flood warnings across the southern region of Queensland.
