Trump Presses Senate Republicans Over Daylight Saving Time

United States President Donald Trump has escalated pressure on US Senate Republicans to pass legislation that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent and end the practice of twice-a-year clock changes. As part of this push, the US president published a lawmaker's cell phone number and singled out an individual member for stalling the bill.

Legislative efforts to eliminate clock switching face significant hurdles in the Senate. Certain members of the body expressed doubts that Senate Republican Leader John Thune would schedule a vote on the measure prior to polling day. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana remarked to Reuters that the legislation was "dead as disco."

Past legislative attempts to alter timekeeping have encountered setbacks. Congress previously repealed a permanent Daylight Saving Time law less than a year after its enactment due to safety worries regarding children commuting to school in darkness before sunrise.
