Two people have died and another remains in a critical condition following a multi-vehicle collision south of Byron Bay.

Emergency services rushed to Broken Head Road in Suffolk Park shortly after 10:30am following reports of a three-vehicle crash. Tweed/Byron Police District officers confirmed that the drivers of two separate vehicles—a woman believed to be in her 50s and a man believed to be in his 60s—died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified.

A female passenger in her 60s from the second vehicle was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Helicopter in a critical condition. Occupants of the third vehicle involved emerged uninjured.

Authorities have established a crime scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, with a report being prepared for the coroner. Broken Head Road remains closed between Beech Drive and Broken Head Reserve Road, with local traffic diversions in place while police urge the public to avoid the area.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Tweed/Byron police or Crime Stoppers.
