Pennsylvania emerges as the hardest-hit state as health officials track rapidly spreading infections.
U.S. measles cases have surged to more than double the total recorded during the previous year as outbreaks continue to spread across multiple regions. Health officials report that the accelerated transmission is driving up infection numbers nationwide.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Pennsylvania is currently the worst-hit state in the country. State health officials have confirmed at least 1,338 cases of measles spanning 44 counties so far this year.
The widespread nature of the outbreak has prompted renewed public health warnings regarding vaccination rates and containment measures. Authorities continue to monitor affected areas to prevent further transmission.
