U.S. Midterm Elections 2026: Voters Head to Polls as Trump Predicts Strong Results

Millions of Americans are casting their ballots today in the 2026 midterm elections, a pivotal contest that will determine which party controls Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s second term. As voting gets underway, President Trump has expressed confidence in the outcome, telling supporters that the results will be “better than you think.”

The stakes for the legislative branch are high. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for election, with Republicans currently defending a narrow majority. In the Senate, 35 of the 100 seats are being contested. Democrats are aiming to flip enough seats in both chambers to secure a majority, which would grant them the power to block the administration's legislative agenda and initiate oversight investigations.

Beyond federal control, voters are deciding on 39 governorships and thousands of state and local offices. Key issues driving voter turnout include economic anxiety—highlighted by rising fuel costs—as well as abortion rights, taxes, and the broader political climate. Early voting has already seen significant participation, with approximately 50 million ballots cast ahead of Election Day.

Polls began opening across the country early Tuesday morning. As the day progresses, the nation awaits the results that will define the balance of power in Washington for the remainder of the Trump presidency.
