Following a divisive campaign season that served as a nationwide referendum on President Donald Trump’s second term, Democrats have won control of Congress in a sweeping "blue wave." Live election results show voters rejecting the president's agenda as Democrats flipped crucial Senate seats across multiple states.
Among the major victories for the party, Abdul El-Sayed won the Senate race in Michigan. In addition to Michigan, Democrats successfully captured Senate seats in Texas, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio, fundamentally shifting the balance of power in Washington.
The midterm elections, which concluded with voting across all 50 states, placed all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and roughly a third of the 100 Senate seats on the ballot. President Trump monitored the unfolding results from the White House, criticizing television coverage on social media as the scope of the congressional shift became clear.
