Pilot Identified Following Cockpit Attack on Flydubai Flight
Investigators and reports have identified the co-pilot behind an attack aboard a Flydubai flight as Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani citizen. However, officials have not yet officially confirmed his identity or his beliefs.
The prosecutor general of the United Arab Emirates stated that the co-pilot attempted a terrorist act during a flight earlier in the week. The incident involved the co-pilot using a crash axe against the captain inside the cockpit. A crash axe is an emergency tool kept in the cockpit to help pilots cut through the aircraft during emergencies.
Ongoing Investigation and Flight Status
Investigators are actively working to determine the motive behind the attack and whether any other individuals were connected to it. Because the aircraft is registered in the United Arab Emirates and flies under its flag, UAE law applies to the crimes committed.
In the wake of the incident and ongoing investigations, Flydubai flights to Israel remain suspended.
