B.C. Municipal Election Polls Prepare to Close as Voters Decide Local Leadership

Voters across British Columbia are casting their final ballots on Saturday in municipal elections to choose their next mayors, city councillors, school board trustees, and regional representatives. Polls are scheduled to close at 8 p.m. local time, marking the first of two consecutive weekends of voting in the province.

The Union of B.C. Municipalities reported that more than 3,500 candidates competed for positions across 189 local bodies. Despite concerns that a back-to-back provincial election schedule could create voter confusion and fatigue, numerous communities—including Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, and Kelowna—reported robust and even record-breaking participation during advance voting periods.

CBC's Decision Desk is tracking the results as they come in, providing special coverage and live updates starting at 8 p.m. PT. Projections are expected for major urban centres such as Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Richmond. Residents will return to the polls next Saturday to cast their ballots in the separate provincial election.
