Democrats Condemn Trump’s Appointment of Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff

Following a difficult outcome for Republicans in the midterm elections, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that immigration adviser Stephen Miller will take over as White House chief of staff. Trump shared the appointment on his Truth Social account, stating that Miller will assume the role on Monday to replace outgoing chief of staff Susie Wiles.

Miller, recognized as a primary architect of Trump's hardline border and deportation policies, has served as a close confidant across both presidential terms. The selection quickly drew sharp rebukes from congressional Democrats, with Senate leader Chuck Schumer arguing that the promotion demonstrates Trump has failed to heed the message of his party's midterm defeats.

With control of both the US House and Senate shifting following the midterms, Democrats are widely anticipated to launch congressional investigations into Miller and his policies when the new term begins in January.
