Eni Extends Fuel Price Cap
Italian energy company Eni has announced the extension of the price cap on fuel prices. The measure, introduced on Eni's Enilive network in late September, sets a maximum price of 1.99 euros per liter for gasoline and 2.25 euros per liter for diesel. The decision was made by Eni's CEO, Claudio Descalzi, during the presentation of the company's third-quarter financial results, which showed a net profit increase and an increase in share buyback.
The price cap was introduced in response to ongoing geopolitical tensions and issues in the oil market. Eni's move has been welcomed by some, but consumer groups are calling on the government to take responsibility for the measure. Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers' Union, stated that while it is positive that Eni is continuing the price cap, it should not be used as an excuse for the government to avoid taking action on fuel prices.
Eni has stated that the price cap is a demonstration of its corporate social responsibility. However, consumer groups are urging the government to take concrete action to address the issue of fuel prices.
