Greens Propose Guaranteed Two-Year Jobs for Young People
A new proposal presented at the Green Party conference in Brighton outlines a plan to provide guaranteed employment for young individuals.
According to the proposal, individuals under the age of 24 who are unemployed would receive an offer for a two-year job within four months of completing their education or training. The scheme would place young people into positions within the private sector, with the government covering half of their salary costs.
The initiative is planned as a pilot program in specific locations, including Newcastle-under-Lyme, Rotherham, and Ceredigion. The details were addressed by Mothin Ali during the second day of the party's gathering in Brighton.
Conference Discussions and Additional Topics
During the event, other political and infrastructure concerns were raised. The Green deputy leader described the water system as a "disaster" and stated that control is insufficient, arguing for public ownership. Additionally, the financial situation surrounding Thames Water was highlighted as a significant test for Burnham.
