Authorities and investigators are examining the background of the co-pilot accused of carrying out an attack aboard a Flydubai flight earlier in the week. The United Arab Emirates prosecutor general stated that the co-pilot attempted a terrorist act inside the cockpit by attacking the captain with a crash axe, which is an emergency tool standardly kept in the cockpit to cut through the aircraft during emergencies.
Identity and Official Status
According to multiple reports, the pilot has been identified as Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani citizen. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding his identity or his personal beliefs.
Investigation and Operational Impacts
Investigators are actively working to determine the motive behind the incident and to ascertain whether any other individuals were connected to the attack. Because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and operates under its flag, UAE law applies to the crimes committed. In the wake of the incident and amid ongoing investigations, Flydubai flights to Israel continue to remain suspended.
