WASHINGTON — During the US midterm elections, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and its aligned political action committees intervened heavily in Democratic primaries and general contests to support pro-Israel candidates.

While a significant number of the candidates backed by AIPAC ultimately won their races, an analysis of campaign finance outcomes showed that the majority of the financial investments made by the pro-Israel lobby group went toward candidates who ultimately lost.

The spending patterns highlighted the high-stakes strategy employed by outside interest groups during the midterms, where millions of dollars were funneled into competitive primaries to influence the direction of foreign policy debates within the US Congress.
