Inde Navarrette Shades Shane Gillis in SNL Monologue Following "Wh--es" Comment Controversy

Actor Inde Navarrette used her Saturday Night Live hosting stint on Oct. 31 to directly address and shade comedian Shane Gillis over his recent controversial comments regarding women in workout attire. Navarrette, known for her role in Obsession and recently cast as Rogue in an upcoming Marvel X-Men film, incorporated the remark into her opening monologue.

During the broadcast, Navarrette told the live audience that she has been working out frequently to prepare for her upcoming Marvel role. “And I know it’s really important for Marvel that you get really fit so I’ve been working out a lot,” she said. “So, every morning I put on my little wh--e outfit and I hit the gym.” Her pointed reference drew loud cheers and laughter from the crowd, serving as a direct callback to Gillis' viral remarks two weeks prior.

The controversy began during Gillis' Oct. 10 appearance on Saturday Night Live—his third time hosting the sketch comedy show—when he used his monologue to criticize women's gym wear, referring to them as "wh--es." The comments drew substantial backlash from viewers and fellow entertainers alike, including public criticisms from Dan Levy, Ego Nwodim, and Cecily Strong. Gillis has not issued a formal statement regarding the ongoing backlash, though he briefly apologized for accidental swearing later during his October episode.
