Israeli Forces Raze Neighbourhood in Hebron, Displacing Hundreds of Families
Israeli soldiers have razed a neighbourhood in Hebron, displacing hundreds of families, in a collective punishment for a militant attack on an army checkpoint outside the West Bank city. The Hebron municipality reported that approximately 35 hectares of land had been destroyed or marked for destruction, and around 1,500 people had been evicted from their homes by Saturday afternoon in the Ein Deir Baha district.
The city of Hebron, with a population of 250,000 people, was sealed off by checkpoints on all entry points. This move is seen as a response to the militant attack on the army checkpoint, which was carried out by Palestinian militants. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to "destroy this place" in retaliation for the attack.
The Israeli military action has left many families without homes, and the exact extent of the damage is still being assessed. The situation in Hebron remains tense, with the city under lockdown and a heavy military presence. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns about the impact on the local population and the escalation of violence in the region.
