Kenyan Doomsday Sect Leader Jailed for 200 Years Over Murders

A Kenyan court has sentenced doomsday cult leader Paul Mackenzie to 200 years in prison following the deaths of 190 children and one adult. The sentencing follows a conviction handed down two weeks prior in the coastal city of Mombasa, stemming from one of modern history's deadliest cult disasters.

Mass Starvation and Direct Homicide

Mackenzie's 200-year prison sentence is divided equally, comprising 100 years for murders committed via starvation and another 100 years for direct homicide. Followers of the sect had been ordered to starve themselves and their families to death, with many victims subsequently buried in a forest.

The tragedy is widely regarded as one of the worst ceremonial massacres of recent times, with authorities investigating roughly 500 suspected victims overall tied to the cult's operations.
