A senior barrister representing Russell Brand has referred himself to the legal profession's watchdog following a confrontation with a Sunday Times journalist.
Confrontation Follows Court Verdict
Ian Winter KC reported his own conduct to the Bar Standards Board after directing a hostile remark at investigative journalist Rosamund Urwin. The incident occurred shortly after Brand was found guilty of rape.
Urwin’s previous journalistic investigations for the newspaper had prompted multiple victims to come forward with allegations against the comedian. Approaching the reporter outside court, Winter told her, “I hope you are pleased with yourself.”
The self-referral to the regulatory body places Winter's professional conduct under formal review following the courtroom confrontation.
