Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Alexander Isak Continues Scoring Streak in Anfield Victory
ANFIELD — Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory against Brighton, lifting the Reds into fourth place in the table and sealing their first Premier League home win under Andoni Iraola.
The decisive first-half flurry at Anfield began in the 17th minute when Pascal Gross inadvertently diverted a shot from Florian Wirtz into his own net. Just four minutes later, Bradley Barcola delivered an emphatic cut-back from the right wing for Alexander Isak to finish clinically. The strike extended Isak's scoring streak to a third consecutive Premier League game.
Despite dominating possession with 64 per cent of the ball, Brighton failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Yasin Ayari missed a golden chance over the crossbar moments before the opener and later struck the post with a curling effort from outside the box. Brighton ultimately finished the match with only one shot on target.
Liverpool successfully defended their lead, though they were forced into a substitution in the 64th minute when Wirtz was withdrawn for Trey Nyoni after hurting his ankle. Nyoni subsequently made a big tackle just before Maxim De Cuyper could pull the trigger in the Liverpool box.
The result moves Liverpool up to fourth in the Premier League table with their first home win under Iraola, while inflicting only Brighton's second loss of the season.
