A 27-year-old Singaporean man pleaded guilty to attempting to kill a stranger at Kallang Wave Mall following a lapse in his mental health treatment.
What Happened at Kallang Wave Mall
The incident took place past 1.30am on Jul 14, 2025. The victim, a 31-year-old woman, was at the mall with her boyfriend and an acquaintance when she stepped away to use the restroom. Chua Jing Yuan targeted her, stabbing her in the chest.
After the attack, Chua fled, but the victim's companions chased him down and restrained him until police arrived. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where she underwent surgery for a stab wound.
Mental Condition and Court Proceedings
The court heard that Chua had stopped receiving treatment for his mental disorder and acted on a voice telling him to kill someone before taking his own life. Medical assessments confirmed that he suffered from a mental condition which affected him at the time of the offence.
