On Friday, 30 October, Milan was the epicenter of a nationwide general strike that saw thousands of workers and activists block key roads, including the East Tangenziale, in a coordinated effort to demand better working conditions and political reforms.
The strike, organized by major trade unions, was part of a broader national movement that called for a halt to all non‑essential work. In Milan, the protests were concentrated around the East Tangenziale, where organizers declared, “Ci prendiamo la Tangenziale Est,” signalling their intention to close the highway to traffic and draw attention to their grievances.
Two main marches were scheduled for the day. The first, starting in the city centre, moved towards the eastern ring road, while the second began in the northern districts and converged on the same route. Participants included teachers, factory workers, and students, all marching in solidarity with the strike’s demands.
