Election Officials Count Votes for 28 Legislative Council Seats Across Four States

Vote counting is underway today for 28 Legislative Council (MLC) seats across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. These elections are critical for determining the composition of the upper houses in these state legislatures, influencing the legislative agenda and political balance in each region.

Administrative Oversight and Suspensions

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has maintained strict oversight during the process. In Uttar Pradesh, the commission suspended six officials following reports of dereliction of duty and lapses at polling booths during the voting phase. Additionally, the ECI removed IAS officer Abhay Singh from his role as an election observer in Uttar Pradesh after a formal complaint was lodged by a BJP MLC.

As counting progresses, authorities remain focused on ensuring the integrity of the results. These MLC elections serve as a significant barometer for the political climate in these four states, with parties closely monitoring the outcome of each seat.
