MotoGP Cancels Australian Grand Prix Due to Severe Weather

The MotoGP Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island has been officially cancelled following persistent, severe weather conditions. Organizers made the decision on Sunday after multiple attempts to delay the start failed to provide a safe window for competition.

Safety Concerns Halt Racing

The cancellation follows a day of disrupted track activity. The morning warm-up session was initially rescheduled before being scrapped entirely, and both the Moto3 and Moto2 races were also called off earlier in the day as officials prioritized the premier class. While Saturday’s sessions proceeded as planned, Sunday’s deteriorating weather ultimately forced the abandonment of the event.

In lieu of a race, MotoGP riders are scheduled to complete a farewell lap behind the safety car, stopping on the main straight to greet fans at the iconic Phillip Island circuit.
