ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigerian health authorities have confirmed a case of Ebola in the capital city of Abuja involving a female traveler arriving from Uganda who tested positive for the virus.
The confirmation marks Nigeria as the latest nation to report an infection as the outbreak continues to spread across the region. Earlier this month, Kenya similarly confirmed its first case and has since recorded a total of nine infections.
Health officials are actively monitoring the situation in Abuja following the detection, as regional responses ramp up to contain further transmission.
