Tireless Advocate for Indigenous Rights Honoured with State Funeral

Patricia Ann Miller AO, a respected Arrernte elder and tireless advocate for Indigenous rights, will be remembered with a state funeral in recognition of her lifetime of dedication to her community and the advancement of social justice.

Born in 1946 on Angas Downs Station, 300 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs, Miller's childhood was marked by a deep connection to her Indigenous heritage. Her son, who wishes to remain anonymous, recalls her unwavering commitment to fighting racial discrimination in the Northern Territory. "She spent her life serving the people of Central Australia with great compassion and integrity," he said.

Miller's trailblazing legacy extends far beyond her official duties as the first Indigenous woman appointed deputy administrator. Her contributions to education, health, and wellbeing have had a lasting impact on the community. A state funeral will be held to honour her memory and acknowledge her tireless advocacy for Indigenous rights.
