Polling commenced Sunday morning for crucial provincial and national assembly by-elections in Punjab, covering constituencies NA-77 Gujranwala-I and PP-203 Sahiwal-VI (Chichawatni). Voting began at 8:00 AM and is scheduled to continue uninterrupted until 5:00 PM.
The electoral contests were triggered following the deaths of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers in September 2026. In NA-77, the seat fell vacant after the passing of veteran MNA Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk, with the PML-N fielding his son, Rashid Bashir Virk. In PP-203, the constituency opened up following the death of PML-N MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif Jutt, whose family member is contesting to retain the seat for the party.
