By-Elections Set for NA-77 and PP-203 on November 8
Voters in Punjab are heading to the polls on Sunday, November 8, 2026, to fill two vacant legislative seats. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized preparations for by-elections in NA-77 (Gujranwala-I) and PP-203 (Sahiwal-VI), following the deaths of incumbent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers in September 2026.
Polling Logistics and Security
Polling is scheduled to begin at 8 am and continue until 5 pm. Across both constituencies, more than 7.50Lac voters are eligible to head to polling stations to elect their representatives for the remaining parliamentary terms.
To ensure a peaceful electoral process, the federal government has approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers personnel. These security forces will work alongside local authorities to maintain order as voters head to the polls.
Political Context
While the results may not alter the balance of power in either assembly, the elections carry political importance for the PML-N as it attempts to retain both constituencies. For the families of the deceased lawmakers, the contests represent an opportunity to continue their political legacy, while smaller parties and independent candidates will be seeking to strengthen their local support.
With polling arrangements completed, additional security forces on standby, and campaigning officially concluded, all eyes are now on November 8 as voters in Gujranwala and Sahiwal prepare to choose their new representatives.
