Supreme Court Bar Association Holds Nationwide Annual Elections

Voting is currently underway across Pakistan as members of the legal community head to the polls to elect new leadership for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). A total of 4,630 registered advocates are eligible to cast their ballots at 13 specialized polling stations established nationwide, including a major center in Islamabad serving 864 registered voters.

A Competitive Race for Leadership

The election features a high-stakes contest between two primary lawyer factions: the Asma Jahangir Group and the Hamid Khan Group. The race for the presidency pits senior advocate Syed Amjad Shah, representing the Asma Jahangir Group, against veteran lawyer Sardar Aman Khan of the Hamid Khan Group. Similarly, the position of SCBA Secretary is being contested by Arif Awan and Mian Irfan Akram, respectively.

Beyond the top executive roles, various independent candidates and regional representatives are vying for vice-presidential and executive committee seats. Campaign platforms have centered on critical issues such as judicial appointments, the welfare of legal practitioners, and overall court efficiency.

Election officials have confirmed that polling will continue throughout the day, with transparent ballot counting scheduled to begin immediately after the polls close. Results for the executive positions are expected to be announced at the central Islamabad station once the verification process is complete. The newly elected body will be tasked with representing the legal fraternity and advocating for constitutional supremacy in the coming year.
