Former Surrey mayor Doug McCallum has secured a victory in the city’s municipal election, overcoming an early lead held by incumbent Brenda Locke. As of the latest reporting, with 111 of 164 polls counted, McCallum captured 33 per cent of the vote, while Locke trailed at 22.2 per cent.

A Shift in Leadership

The results mark a significant return for McCallum, who led the polls for the majority of election night. Following the trend, Locke officially conceded the race to her predecessor. Addressing a solemn crowd of supporters, Locke acknowledged the outcome, stating, “Surrey voters have definitely spoken and this was not the result we counted on.”

The election concludes a high-stakes campaign in Metro Vancouver, with voters focused on critical municipal issues including service delivery and infrastructure management. The city continues to process the remaining ballots as the transition of power begins.
