MECKERING, Western Australia — Emergency services responded to a severe vehicle collision on the Great Eastern Highway after two trucks collided and caught fire, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the sky.

Emergency Response and Road Closures

Nine career and volunteer firefighting crews, along with four ambulance crews, were deployed to the scene. An emergency helicopter was also dispatched but was later stood down. While fire crews have successfully extinguished the blaze, they remain at the location to dampen down the mangled wreckage and charred ground.

The Great Eastern Highway remains closed in the vicinity of Quellington Road, causing traffic delays and backups in the area. Police and emergency personnel continue to manage the site, and authorities are advising motorists to seek alternative routes.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of people involved in the crash. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers.
