The Republican National Committee announced on Thursday that President Trump has canceled two upcoming campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa. The events, originally scheduled for this weekend, were intended to support Senator Roger Marshall in Kansas and Representative Ashley Hinson in Iowa.
Despite the cancellations, the RNC stated that the president will participate in tele-rallies for both candidates. The committee maintained that the decision was made because Republican candidates in those states are performing well enough that the president’s physical presence is no longer required to bolster support.
The announcement follows recent public scrutiny regarding the president’s health and stamina. Mr. Trump, 80, has maintained a rigorous schedule of daily, hours-long rallies for several weeks. When questioned by a reporter on Thursday regarding whether health concerns prompted the change in plans, the president dismissed the suggestion.
While the Kansas and Iowa events are off the calendar, the president remains scheduled to hold a rally in Florida on Friday. These changes come as the party faces a competitive midterm landscape, with Democrats aiming to challenge Republican control of Congress amid voter concerns over the economy and foreign policy.
