Two Nights at Saint Vitus: Brooklyn's Metal Mecca Returns
Generations of heavy metal fans recently packed two contrasting nights of music to celebrate the grand return of Saint Vitus, Brooklyn's premier metal club. Following the 2024 closure of its original Greenpoint location due to a Department of Buildings occupancy issue, the beloved venue reopened its doors in early September at a new, larger Bushwick space co-owned by George Souleidis, Arty Shepherd, David Castillo, and Erin Michelle Perri.
The weekend's festivities showcased the broad spectrum of heavy music that the venue champions. The opening night featured a sold-out performance by New Jersey thrash veterans Overkill, preceded by an energetic set from opener Tower. The crowd was a mix of Gen X and Gen Z fans sporting classic metal apparel, whipping the floor into a massive mosh pit as frontman Bobby Blitz delivered signature vocals. Two nights later, the atmosphere shifted entirely for a performance by Krallice, drawing a younger, avant-garde crowd that treated the venue more like a listening salon.
While the new Bushwick location roughly doubles the old 250-person capacity and offers high-end upgrades—including an upstairs dressing room and roof deck with city views—attendees noted that the intimate connection between the crowd and the stage remains untouched. With its walls adorned in classic metal memorabilia and a design curated directly by musicians, Saint Vitus has successfully reclaimed its crown as a global beacon for the metal community.
