Apple has announced a fresh round of hardware updates, bringing the new M6 processor to both the iMac and the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. Following the initial debut of the M6 chip in the Mac mini several weeks prior, these popular desktop and portable mainstays are receiving immediate performance and capability adjustments.
Apple iMac M6 Chip Configurations
The updated iMac lineup incorporates the M6 processor, which is split into two distinct variants depending on the chosen model tier.
- Two Thunderbolt Ports Option: Equipped with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, this baseline variant supports up to 24 GB of RAM and a maximum storage capacity of 1TB.
- Four Thunderbolt Ports Option: Upgraded to 12 cores for both the CPU and GPU, this higher-tier configuration scales performance further, maxing out at 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.
Entry-Level 14-Inch MacBook Pro Updates
Alongside the iMac refresh, Apple updated its entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the same M6 processor architecture. Neither the iMac nor the updated 14-inch MacBook Pro features exterior design changes compared to their previous generations, keeping the focus entirely on the internal hardware upgrade brought by the new chip.
These updates continue Apple's transition of its core computer lineup to the M6 generation, providing consumers with scalable options across both desktop and portable form factors.
