Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBook Pro
Apple has made a significant move in the tech industry by launching its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, dubbed the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. The laptop features a 14-inch or 16-inch XDR OLED touchscreen display, offering improved colors and brightness compared to standard LCD displays. The device also includes the iPhone's Dynamic Island, which houses the Center Stage webcam, Siri AI, and app Live Activities.
The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is available in two sizes, with the 14-inch model starting at $2,899 and the 16-inch model at $3,199. For comparison, the base MacBook Pro 14-inch with Apple's new M6 processor starts at $1,999, while the standard MacBook Pro 16-inch with Apple's M5 Pro processor starts at $2,999. These prices reflect a $300 price increase implemented in June due to the global memory and storage shortage.
This move marks a departure from Apple's previous attempts at incorporating touchscreens into its Macs, such as the Touch Bar, which failed to gain traction among users. The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display comes on the heels of Apple's recent product launches, including upgraded versions of the MacBook Pro and iMac, as well as a refreshed iPad mini.
Apple's Mac line of devices accounted for $33.7 billion of the company's $416.1 billion in 2025 sales, making it the tech giant's fourth-largest segment by sales. The company has accelerated its product launches in the second half of the year, introducing new chips, updated AirPods, and other devices, including the sold-out iPhone Duo, which has delivery times extending into late January.
