Chiricahua Designated as 64th U.S. National Park

Arizona’s Chiricahua National Monument has officially been elevated to national park status, becoming the 64th unit in the U.S. National Park System. The designation follows the passage of bipartisan legislation in Congress, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Located in the southeastern corner of the state, the area is renowned for its dramatic landscape of towering rock spires. Known to Native American tribes as the "Land of Standing-Up Rocks," the site has long been recognized for its unique geological formations and historical significance.

The transition from a national monument to a national park marks a significant milestone for the region, providing the site with enhanced federal recognition and protection. The move received broad support from lawmakers, reflecting the area's status as a prominent natural landmark.
