Property expert John McGrath says Australia's major metropolitan markets are nearing the bottom of their fastest correction in decades, highlighting 40 metropolitan and regional growth suburbs in the newly released McGrath Report 2027.
According to McGrath Estate Agents founder and CEO John McGrath, the current market correction has seen many big metropolitan markets drop 10 to 15 per cent—and in some cases up to 20 per cent—over a six-month period. However, drawing on his four decades in the industry, he notes that historical trends indicate the nation's major cities are close to finding their floor.
As part of his annual report, McGrath has identified 40 specific suburbs across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania poised for future growth. Among the highlighted locations are Campsie in Sydney—tipped as a potential successor to Marrickville—and the New South Wales south coast town of Narooma, featuring a median house price of $990,000.
In Victoria, the report points to Sunshine for its diverse housing stock and proximity to the city, alongside the regional centre of Mildura, which anticipates significant population and employment growth by 2046. Queensland hotspots include Beenleigh for affordable transit-connected housing between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and Maryborough on the Fraser Coast. Meanwhile, Tasmanian selections feature Chigwell near Hobart and Mayfield in Launceston, which offers strong rental yields alongside accessible median house pricing.
The McGrath Report 2027 aims to guide buyers, investors, and vendors navigating the shifting property landscape as values stabilise across the country.
